Rushing Into Misery

Heather's parents married young. But they always seemed to be fine.

So when Heather turned 18, she began searching furiously for a mate. She met Brandon- a handsome, funny guy. By age 19, she had pushed him into marrying her.

But marriage wasn't as great as she thought it would be. And Brandon wasn't meeting all her needs.

So she begged and pleaded until he agreed to buying a house. They really couldn't afford such a nice house, but they figured with both of them working, they could scrape together enough money to make the monthly payments.

Then Brandon lost his job. Within 3 months, they had to file for bankruptcy.

Heather knew that if marriage hadn't fulfilled her needs and a house hadn't fulfilled her needs, well... babies certainly would! She got pregnant as fast as she could.

And it was great to be a mom. So she quickly had two more children.

But she started feeling empty again. She didn't get out of the house much. Brandon had a great career... and she was stuck at home.

So she dumped the kids off at any daycare that would take them and started working as a secretary.

Meanwhile, she began thinking about a former boyfriend from high school. How much better her life would be if she had only married him...

And Brandon? Well, he realized long ago that nothing he could do or provide would make his wife happy. In fact, she blamed him for all of her problems. She even called the police on him one night just out of spite.

Whenever he tried to resolve their conflicts (like the bogus call to the police), she erupted in anger and told him to quit nagging her.

Problems simply got thrown into the "box of issues" that grew year by year.

Heather must stop relying on external factors for her internal happiness, and Brandon must take some bold steps in managing his family. Intensive counseling is the only hope for this marriage.
